A MAJOR public art trail on the scale of the city-wide Go Superlambananas event will be taking place in Liverpool later this year.
Details of the commissioned series of art works are expected to be released this morning when the Liverpool Culture Company announces its programme for 2009. Plans for this year will include around 100 highlights, including events organised by some of the city’s major cultural organisations as well as grassroots projects.
Liverpool Culture Company, the organisation that oversaw the city’s Capital of Culture year and renamed Culture Liverpool, is continuing to play an important role in the city’s arts scene. This is its first announcement since the Transition event in January, which marked the end of Liverpool’s reign as European Capital of Culture.
It comes just six weeks after Liverpool City Council committed £8.4m to its arts budget, which will help fund 67 organisations, from cultural giants such as the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse to community groups.
The 10-week Go Superlambananas event saw 125 miniature versions of the original art work placed at locations across the city.
DETAILS of the announcement will be posted online today at www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk
