Human leg found on farmland

POLICE have launched an investigation after a human leg was discovered on farmland, it has been disclosed.

The grisly find, believed to be a male left leg, was made on Sunday afternoon on land next to the A507, near Cottered, in Hertfordshire. A police spokeswoman said work on identifying the remains was in its early stages.

She said: “The area is cordoned off while officers continue to examine the scene. The investigation is being dealt with by officers from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire major crime unit.

“Detectives are looking into every possibility as to why the remains came to be there.

“Police were alerted to the remains by a local resident yesterday afternoon at 4.45pm.”

The A507 between Buntingford and Baldock was closed to heavy goods vehicles and a stretch of the carriageway was closed to all vehicles between Cumberlow Green and Cottered for much of yesterday.
