LIVERPOOL Council has finally ended its three-year search for a new city solicitor, after advertising the role a number of times.
Paul Evans, 43, who is currently the acting director of corporate services and resources at troubled Doncaster Council, will take up the £115,000-a-year role next month.
Last night council leader Warren Bradley said he was pleased to announce the appointment and would work to make sure he had the support of all the council.
The post had been vacant since Graeme Creer departed in November 2005 in the aftermath of the fallout between ex-council leader Mike Storey and former chief executive Sir David Henshaw.
He joined law firm Weightmans as a partner and head of its national public sector group.
Michael Kenworthy had been performing the role of acting city solicitor until the autumn before Charlie Adan was brought in as interim city solicitor.
Mr Evans leaves Doncaster as the local authority is experiencing a huge upheaval of its own.
Its elected mayor Martin Winter is set to stand down after a series of scandals, and its children’s services have been branded “inadequate” following the deaths of seven children since 2004.
Mr Evans has worked at Doncaster since 2000. Between 2004 and 2006 he worked as the town’s director of legal and democratic services, and was head of legal services from 2000 to 2004.
