COMIC Relief received more than £7.8m via text message donations, potentially setting a new record.
During the television coverage of the appeal, the public were invited to give £5 by sending “yes” to 66609.
All mobile operators waived their fees and the Treasury did not take VAT.
Comic Relief trustee Emma Freud said: “The commitment of the mobile industry to this year’s campaign has been astonishing.”
