Help for jobless Crosby Shop Direct call centre workers

MORE than 500 staff at Crosby’s doomed Shop Direct call centre have booked face-to-face interviews with a range of help agencies visiting the site tomorrow.

The retail group will axe more than 1,000 jobs when the Kershaw Avenue centre closes at the end of this month.

Tomorrow’s multi- agency open day was arranged by Jobcentre Plus to offer staff individual advice and support on issues such as entitlement to benefits, job search support and careers advice, training opportunities, debt management, self- employment and travel to work.

Presentations will be given to 550 staff and helpful literature will be distributed to all the centre’s workforce.

Sue Riley, Jobcentre Plus Merseyside district manager, said: “This is an important event which will add to the support already provided by Jobcentre Plus.”

Shop Direct spokesman Alan Kinson added: “This is obviously a very difficult time for all those employees affected, but we would, of course, like to encourage them all to take full advantage of the help and support available via Jobcentre Plus and the agencies attending.”
