A HEAD teacher last night called for “obscene” exams taken by 11-year-olds to be consigned to history.
Figures released today will show another set of improved Sats results at Key Stage Two across Merseyside.
But the success stories will come amid controversy.
The National Union of Teachers and National Association of Head Teachers want to boycott the 2010 tests taken by seven and 11-year-olds.
The Government has already scrapped tests for 14-year-olds and the unions want it to dump the remaining Sats.
Last night, Peter Price, head teacher at St Christopher’s primary, in Speke, and National Primary Headteachers’ Association chairman, agreed it was “time for them to go”.
He believes school inspections provide enough accountability.
Mr Price added: “The current system is all about memory, knowledge, recall. To let pupils as young as 10 be part of that process is obscene.”
