Wirral councillor presses ahead with calls for judicial review

A WIRRAL councillor said last night he was disappointed the council had not responded to his legal challenge over controversial library closures.

Cllr David Kirwan wrote to Wirral council detailing the legal basis for his move to have a judicial review into the Strategic Asset Review (SAR).

After a 4pm deadline for a response passed yesterday, Cllr Kirwan said he was not surprised at not receiving any answer from the authority.

He said: “I am disappointed on such an important issue affecting every householder in Wirral I have not had a positive response.”

His application for funding for the legal challenge was submitted and could lead to a judicial review of the SAR and the closure of 11 libraries across Wirral.

A council spokesman said it was “confident we have consulted properly and lawfully with local people with regard to the SAR”.
