A POST mortem will be carried out this morning on a body found in the sea off Blackpool.
The man was discovered by coastguards just before 1pm yesterday.
It follows a massive search and rescue operation launched on Monday lunchtime after a 19-year-old man, believed to be from Skelmersdale, fell into the water.
Lancashire Police said they could not confirm the man’s identity until he was formally identified.
A spokesman said: “The male’s body was discovered at approximately 12.50am on a ledge on the sea wall opposite Cocker Square.”
More than 30 firemen from four stations were posted as look-outs from an aerial crane, while two helicopters joined boats in the search for the missing teenager.
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
Initial reports had suggested the man’s fall was a false alarm – or even a hoax.
