Coroner calls for help to catch killer of Liverpool Army cadet

LIVERPOOL’S coroner has urged anyone with information about the murder of an Army cadet to come forward and speak to police.

Andre Rebello adjourned the inquest into the death of Joseph Lappin after hearing from police that the investigation into his stabbing was still ongoing.

Joseph, 16, from Old Swan, was stabbed outside the Shrewsbury House youth centre last October, during an unprovoked attack.

The popular Cardinal Heenan Catholic high school pupil and his friends were chased by a gang outside after attending a music class.

Police arrested 15 people in the first fortnight of the investigation. Most remain on bail.

Det Sgt David Banner, from the investigation team, told the court the inquiry was still progressing.

Mr Rebello said: “Anyone with a prick of the conscience who thinks it may be too late to give over any information they know should pick up the phone and speak to their local police station.”

The inquest was adjourned until July 7, when Mr Rebello will be updated on the investigation.

Anyone with information should call the police incident room on 0151 777 8617 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
