Three arrested over knife raid on Widnes Vikings co-owner's Cheshire home

THREE men have been arrested by police investigating a terrifying raid on a millionaire’s Cheshire home.

Steve O’Connor, who co-owns the Widnes Vikings rugby club, his wife and young son were held at knife- point by four masked raiders on March 24.

The suspects, aged 26, 25 and 22, are all from Prescot. They were granted police bail until May 26. Cheshire Police say they are now being held by a neighbouring force in connection with other offences.

Meanwhile, Mr O’Connor said he, his wife Clare, and son Stevie are trying to put their lives back together.

The gang of four burst through the solid oak front door of their home in Frodsham brandishing blades and crow bars.

They stole up to £30,000 of jewels and designer watches, as well as £500.

Stevie, four, was also dragged from his bed and tied up along with his mother next to the family’s swimming pool. Clare, 35, kept her son calm by telling Stevie the intruders were “naughty superheroes”.

Mr O’Connor, whose haulage company, the O’Connor Group, was bought out by Eddie Stobart in 2007, said last night: “Stevie has said that these naughty superheroes were bad because they didn’t take their shoes off and when they said ‘get down’ they didn’t say please or thank you.
