TWO people are believed to have been seriously injured in a motorway pile-up on the M6 at the Thelwall Viaduct.
The crash happened shortly after 9pm last night and involved three vehicles – two cars and a heavy goods lorry.
The accident, which happened between Junctions 21 and 20, completely closed all four lanes of the motorway, leading to delays.
An initial assessment of the scene was still being made late last night, but a police spokeswoman said: “At this stage, we have two serious injuries reported. Traffic is being diverted off the M6 southbound at Junction 21 so the tail-backs, although they have built up, will not be too severe.
“Traffic which is caught behind the scene will be diverted off the motorway once the traffic at the rear has been moved.”
The northbound carriageway is not believed to have been affected.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, and are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed anything.
