LIVERPUDLIAN John Yates took over as Britain’s most senior anti-terror officer yesterday.
His promotion came as Bob Quick, the former Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner and head of specialist operations, resigned over a security blunder.
“Yates of the Yard” as he is affectionately known, was born in 1959 to a family of doctors in the city.
He joined the Met in 1981 and has been senior investigating officer in more than 20 murder enquiries.
He also led the abortive 19-month “cash-for-peerages” inquiry.
A keen Liverpool FC fan, he is married with two children and enjoys long-distance cycling and cricket.
