School holidays scheme rejected
Lancashire benefits from standardised school year
SCHOOL holidays and term dates across the 11 education districts of Lancashire have been standardised since the start of the 2006/07 school year.
Lancashire county council’s chairman, Alan Whittaker, who oversaw the shake-up, said it was “crazy for schools not to have the same holidays” with planning for teachers and parents now much easier and few complaints received.
Unauthorised term- time absence had not risen, and fears over the price of holidays was a non-starter.
“A child’s education far outweighs two weeks in Torremolinos,” Cllr Whittaker said.
