School holidays scheme rejected
Standardised holidays would not dilute Easter message
THE Easter message will not be diluted under the plans, church officials stressed last night.
Archdiocesan director of schools Frank Cogley said voluntary aided, including faith, schools would be protected as “their governing bodies have the power to determine their own term dates.”
The schools already mark religious events differently, some deciding pupils should be in school with others thinking events should be marked at home or in a parish setting.
Teacher-only training days also vary from school to school.
But Mr Cogley stressed tweaks to any adopted standardised model “would be used sparingly, if at all.”
