Racist emails alleged at Lancashire County Council Town Hall

FOURTEEN Town Hall staff have been suspended over allegedly racist emails, a north-west council leader said yesterday.

The employees of Lancashire County Council, which has 48,000 staff in all, were suspended last week and an internal investigation is under way at County Hall, in Preston.

It centres on supposedly racist emails sent between workers. Council leader Hazel Harding said: “Suspension does not imply guilt, it is there for the protection of employees as well as the organisation.

“The allegation is that they are in breach of the County Council’s code of conduct for use of IT and emails.

“Racist emails would be in breach of our policy.”
