Former Liverpool Daily Post editor Jane Costello’s book Bridesmaids shortlisted for Melissa Nathan Award for Comedy Romance

THE former editor of the Liverpool Daily Post has been shortlisted for one of the UK’s biggest fiction awards.

Jane Wolstenholme, who writes under the name Jane Costello, has seen her debut novel shortlisted for the Melissa Nathan Award for Comedy Romance 2009.

Ms Wolstenholme, 35, who is from Allerton and now lives in Burscough, is one of six authors to make the cut.

Her novel, Bridesmaids, which is set in Liverpool and Lancashire, follows the fortunes of four women in their twenties.

Ms Wolstenholme said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to reach the short-list for the Melissa Nathan award.

“When I wrote Bridesmaids, I never imagined it was the sort of book to win prizes.

“I simply aimed to write something funny and romantic – and which celebrated the lighter side of life. I’ve been amazed by the success of the novel, which readers really seem to have connected with.”
