Murdered man was stabbed in back

POLICE investigating the “horrific” killing of a man whose dismembered body was found in five countryside locations revealed last night he was stabbed in the back.

Officers leading the inquiry said it was hoped a clay reconstruction of the victim’s face will provide the breakthrough in efforts to identify him.

Detective Chief Inspector Michael Hanlon, who said the case was “one of the most horrific” he had dealt with, said it was now believed the man was aged between his mid-forties and early sixties. He was of large build, weighing between 16 and 17 stone.

The detective added that he was killed with a large knife driven into his back, piercing his body cavity and causing a fatal wound.

The man’s torso, right arm and upper left arm were found in a ditch on Saturday evening, the latest in a series of grim discoveries across Leicestershire and Hertfordshire.
