THE NHS was accused of ageism last night, after it was claimed that elderly stroke patients did not receive the same level of care as their younger counterparts.
Older patients are less likely to be given appropriate diagnostic tests and lifestyle advice, according to research from the Postgraduate Medical Journal.
The research claimed that younger stroke patients are scanned more quickly and are more likely to be given brain (MRI) scans.
Campaigning bodies accused the NHS of ageism.
