Wirral sees fall of almost a quarter of care home places for dementia in five years

WIRRAL has seen a fall of almost a quarter in the number of care home places for people with dementia – the highest in Merseyside – in the last five years.

The figures, uncovered by the Conservatives, show the borough saw a 24% fall between 2004 and 2008 – meaning there were 157 fewer places at care homes for older people with dementia or mental disorder.

Cheshire also saw a significant fall of 25% over the same period, 802 places.

Several Merseyside authorities also saw drops in places – Knowsley saw a 16% drop (96 places), in Liverpool the fall was just under 4% (or around 42 places) and Halton saw a 12% drop (some 85 places).
