Birkenhead dad jailed over £67,000 benefits con

A FATHER-OF-THREE who cheated the system out of £67,000, despite having a massive savings pot, has been jailed for 18 months.

Keith Tully, 50, swindled a string of benefits, even though he had been granted £111,000 in compensation after being viciously assaulted.

Liverpool Crown Court heard the hard-working labourer was badly injured on a New Year’s Eve several years ago after he stepped in to rescue a man being beaten in the street.

John Dixon, defending, said: “He was walking home from a party when he saw a male being seriously assaulted.

“Fearing serious injury, if not death, he intervened, but it turned out he was the one left seriously injured.”
