Maghull cyclists to ride 1,000 miles from Barcelona to Anfield for Marina Dalglish Cancer Appeal

Mark Whitwood

EIGHT cyclists will set off on a gruelling European trek to raise cash for Marina Dalglish’s cancer charity.

Mark Whitwood and seven friends will cycle a football-themed 1,000 miles from Barcelona to Anfield, ending their 10-day trek at the Shankly Gates.

En route, the team will pick up signed shirts from major teams, which will be auctioned off at a charity ball at Anfield.

Mr Whitwood, of Maghull, said he decided to organise the ride around Europe because his fiancee’s father died from cancer three years ago.

The 28-year-old said: “We raised £7,000 and our target is £25,000.

“All the team is really excited, but nervous.”
