A SECOND incident at the Southport bar where Steven Gerrard was arrested in December has prompted police to call for an urgent licensing review.
David Jackson, 27, was injured in what police sources called “an extremely serious assault” at the Lounge Inn.
At 11.20pm, on Easter Sunday, Mr Jackson, who works at DP Joinery, Liverpool Road, was allegedly glassed at the Bold Street venue after a row over a woman.
His injuries were so serious he was taken to Southport hospital and was not discharged until Wednesday afternoon.
Yesterday, Steven Howard, 29, of Portland Street, Southport, appeared before Bootle magistrates court charged with Section 18 wounding.
His case has now been referred to Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday, July 28. He has been remanded in custody until this date.
The incident raises questions about the security measures in place at the bar after the second serious assault in less than six months at the venue.
Sefton council’s licensing boss, Bill Milburn, said in a report, which is due to be discussed at an emergency licensing committee meeting on Monday: “Merseyside Police seek the suspension of the Premises Licence until all matters are rectified to the satisfaction of both the police and the Sefton Licensing Committee.”
