Union campaigns for United Biscuits jobs

UNITED Biscuits (UB) says it remains committed to Liverpool despite union claims that job losses are imminent.

Trade union Unite says the company is planning to axe 170 jobs from its finance centre in Binns Road, Wavertree and will instead send the work to India.

Unite has organised a petition asking UB not to cut the jobs and this lunchtime workers will be collecting signatures in Bold Street in Liverpool city centre.

Yesterday UB, which also employs 750 people at its Aintree bakery, said: “We communicate directly with our employees and the labour unions on all issues that affect them.

“We are disappointed Unite is presenting misleading and inaccurate information to and about our employees at the Binns Road site.”
