Chester amputee solicitor returns to work keen to benefit clients

A CLINICAL negligence specialist whose leg was amputated after an infection has returned to work saying she is determined to use the experience to benefit her clients.

Rachael Vasmer, a partner at Chester-based Walker Smith Way solicitors, has suffered with knee and back problems since picking up a hockey injury when she was a teenager.

Now 44, she was in and out of hospital throughout 2008. After an operation to fit an external frame to her knee in March last year, pins going into her bones became infected.

Mrs Varmer, a mother of two teenage boys, said: “Over six months, despite extensive treatment, the infection worsened and the hole inside the bone got bigger, meaning my only option was an amputation above the knee.

“Having undergone an amputation, I can empathise with its psychological impact.
