SIXTIES pop legend Gerry Marsden boarded the ferry across the Mersey to receive the Freedom of the City of Liverpool last night.
Mr Marsden, famous for other hits including I Like It and the Kop anthem, You’ll Never Walk Alone, was honoured by Lord Mayor Cllr Steve Rotheram.
The 66-year-old singer was presented with the accolade in front of 500 family, friends and guests aboard the Royal Iris and performed Ferry Across the Mersey.
Cllr Rotheram said: “Gerry is a fantastic ambassador for Liverpool.
“He has become synonymous with the city and I’m delighted that he is to be made a Freeman.
“I know Gerry well and I think he will be intensely proud of this honour.
“He is a passionate Scouser and I thought granting him the Freedom of the City on a world-famous ferry across the Mersey would be the perfect way for the city to thank him for everything he’s done.”
