First new mayor for Ellesmere Port in 35 years

ELLESMERE Port will soon have its own mayor for the first time since 1974.

Cheshire West and Chester councillor Tony Sherlock was elected at the inaugural meeting of the town’s Charter Trustees and will be invested with the chain of office on May 19.

Cllr Sherlock (Labour) has been a local councillor for 31 years and was mayor of the former borough of Ellesmere Port and Neston in 1993-94.

The new mayoralty was formed after the former Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council unanimously expressed its wish that the town maintained a civic role after being replaced by Cheshire West and Chester Council on April 1.
