Government crime and justice adviser Louise Casey hits out at officials who protect criminals

A GOVERNMENT advisor in Liverpool to see neighbourhood policing at work says officials should stop protecting criminals.

Louise Casey, whose brief is to advise the Prime Minister on Crime and Justice, was shown around Toxteth by a neighbourhood policing team.

The outspoken Home Office heavy-hitter praised Liverpool officers for back to basics policing and putting money and resources were they would do the most good.

But she also criticised courts too afraid of the human rights act to name juveniles with ASBOs, and officials who won’t release pictures of offenders serving time.

Visiting to see offenders performing “community pay back” wearing orange tabards she said: “People were calling it unpaid work. That makes them sound like they’re volunteering in a homeless shelter. And dressing them up like council workers insults men who have never committed a crime and just do a hard days work. These are criminals.”
