Man freed after St Helens store worker’s death

A MAN arrested after a Merseyside supermarket worker confronted a suspected shoplifter and later died has been released.

Grandmother Mauren Marsh collapsed hours after the incident at Morrisons in St Helens on Saturday afternoon.

The 56-year-old complained of being unwell, fell unconscious and never woke up as her life-support machine was switched off on Sunday.

A man, 32, arrested on suspicion of murder has now been released on bail by Merseyside Police.

Mrs Marsh, a mother-of-three, is said to have been trying to stop a man who was suspected of stealing a bag of razor blades.

Details of the confrontation are unclear, but it is understood the victim grappled with the man before falling to the floor.

Results of a post mortem examination on Mrs Marsh have been withheld by detectives as further tests are carried out.
