JOHN OXX has tow horses among the 19 entries for the stanjames.com 2,000 Guineas, but has yet to decide if both will line up in the first Classic of the season.
Oxx is part of a strong Irish challenge and has both Arazan and Sea The Stars entered the mile Group One contest at Newmarket at May 3.
Fellow Irish handlers Aidan O’Brien and Jim Bolger also have strong hands.
O’Brien has two of the favourites in Mastercraftsman and Rip Van Winkle, while the Ballydoyle trainer has also left in Born To Be King, Grand Ducal, Set Sail and Westphalia.
Bolger has Gan Amhras and Intense Focus entered.
Oxx, though, will decide over the weekend on whether to keep his charges in Monday’s confirmation stage.
Arazan was third in the National Stakes at the Curragh, while Sea The Stars won two of his three juvenile starts. Both worked well in a racecourse gallop after racing at Leopardstown on Sunday.
But Bolger said: “They just did some nice, easy work together so it was nothing too extraordinary, but a nice day out for the pair of them.
“Everything went fine and they are fine afterwards so we’ll be making a decision over the weekend about leaving the two of them in at the confirmation stage on Monday.
“Hopefully we will be leaving them in, if all goes well, and we will be in a position to make a decision about Sea The Stars at that stage.
“It’s hard to know for sure, but it looks like Arazan is a miler, and probably no more, while Sea The Stars looks like he’ll go beyond the mile.
“Sea The Stars is in everything, including the Derrinstown Derby Trial, so that’s a possibility for him if he misses the Guineas.”
