Wirral village urges pollution checks

A WIRRAL village is seeking a special status which would see pollution closely monitored.

Eastham, situated near to industrial sites along the New Chester Road has already seen additional testing for nitrogen dioxide in 2008. Now, Councillors Phil Gilchrist and Tom Harney have requested Wirral council create an air quality management area (AQMA), which would see more levels being checked in the village.

A notice of motion to the council reads: “Consideration should now be given to the establishment of an AQMA to meet residents’ concerns about the concentration of industry and traffic in the area.”
