Man is jailed for attacking rescuer in St Helens

A FATHER was left with a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain when he went to the aid of a woman.

Good Samaritan Robert Howard was asleep alongside his partner and seven-month-old baby when awoken by David Llewellyn screaming at his girlfriend.

Mr Howard looked out the window to see Llewellyn, 22, holding something as he hurled abuse at his then partner Lisa Johnson.

Worried for her safety and concerned over the noise, Mr Howard went to challenge Llewellyn.

Philip Astbury, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court as Mr Howard confronted Llewellyn he was savagely beaten with a metal rounders bat.

Jailing expectant father Llewellyn for 21 months, Judge John Phipps said: that Mr Howard “ended up being attacked with a metal rounders bat, which was about two-foot long.”

Mr Howard suffered a fracture to the skull and bleeding to the brain, as well as injuries to his ear.

He spent two days in hospital after the attack on Vernon Street, St Helens, at 3am on October 4.

Llewellyn, of Wood Street, St Helens, admitted causing grievous bodily harm on the day his trial was due to start.
