Merseyside firefighters celebrate after resolving water row

FIREFIGHTERS are celebrating after resolving a spat that left them without enough water to tackle the largest blazes.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service threatened legal action against United Utilities unless it boosted water pressure.

Now the company has vowed it will replace more than 100 sub-standard hydrants. The two organisations are also mapping the location of the highest-pressure water supplies so crews can easily access them in emergencies.

Both MFRS and UU also agreed to hold joint training sessions to prepare for major incidents.
