Scouts celebrate St George’s Day with day of fun at Lydiate Parish Hall
SCOUTS from Sefton East District gathered at Lydiate Parish Hall yesterday for their annual St George’s Day celebration.
More than 400 beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers from Lydiate, Maghull, Aintree and Melling took part in a range of activities, including climbing, shooting and archery.
Taking advantage of the weekend’s sunny weather, they also enjoyed a “simulated caving experience”, canoeing, rafting and circus skills, a ferreting demonstration, a birds of prey show, bouncy castles and 3D cinema.
Alex Graham, a scout leader at 12th Sefton East, said the 60 leaders and helpers involved took the total number of people to over 500, proving the scouting movement is as big as ever.
He said: “There was an awful lot going on and the event just gets bigger every year.
“Scouting is still alive and well and firing on all cylinders.
“As in previous years, the numbers have gone up and it really highlights that scouting is not dead.
“It was a great day.”
