Merseyside children encouraged to learn more about careers in science

MINI-SCIENTISTS shared their water saving ideas with professionals as part of a drive to promote careers in the industry.

Pupils at Hale Primary visited Pentagon Fine Chemicals, Halebank, Widnes, to help the scientists stop their “leaky pipes”.

Pentagon’s executives had written to the Year Five pupils at Hale CofE Primary School, near Widnes, to ask them for their ideas.

Sue Andrews, Chemicals Northwest’s advisory teacher for primary schools, took the eight, nine and 10-year-olds on the site visit.

She said: “The children love the site visits and getting kitted out in the goggles, hard hats and gloves.

“Throughout the visit, they are addressed as ‘young scientists’ and each have a role such as health and safety officer or resource manager.”
