Millions to ‘harvest’ innovation

HUNDREDS of millions of pounds are being set aside to harvest new ideas from frontline NHS staff.

A total of £240m has been earmarked for two schemes aimed at encouraging better working practices and promoting advances in patient care, Health Minister Lord Darzi announced yesterday.

At the same time, a legal duty has been placed on Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs) to lead the way on innovation in the NHS.

Each of the 10 English SHAs will receive £2m this year, with an additional £5m paid annually over the next four years.
