BRITONS will visit an average of 28 towns or cities in this country during their lifetime, a tiny fraction of the total, although some never leave their own area, new research reveals.
A study by car giant Vauxhall found that residents in Cambridge were the most adventurous travellers, visiting 40 other cities, while people in Birmingham visited the least number at 23.
The research, among 3,000 adults, suggested there could be more than a million so-called One Town Wonders – adults who have never left their home town or city, even for a holiday.
Other findings were that one in five people living in Edinburgh had never visited the city’s famous castle, while more than a third of North East residents had never seen the Angel of the North.
Only one in five Londoners said they had found more culture and history travelling around the UK than abroad.
Vauxhall calculated from the research that the average Briton would only visit 2% of the UK’s towns and cities in their lifetime.
