Liverpool universities ranked in independent table

LIVERPOOL has only the 34th best university in the country, according to new league tables published today.

The University of Liverpool was ranked third best in the North West and 34th nationally in the Complete University Guide.

The table is an independent guide ranking universities on factors such as student satisfaction, research and graduate prospects.

Chester falls 90th nationally, followed by Liverpool John Moores at 104th place and Edge Hill at 109th.

Liverpool Hope University, which was ranked 110th in last year’s table, was one of five universities across the country who asked to be omitted.

A spokesman for Liverpool University, speaking on the rise from 42nd place last year, said: “We are pleased that our position has risen, reflecting our investment in excellence in both teaching and research.” Based on last year’s table, John Moores has fallen 10 places, and Chester six places, while Edge Hill has risen three places.

The Complete University Guide’s on-line interactivity allows users to weigh up universities by their own criteria.

Bernard Kingston, principal author of The Complete University Guide, said: “Competition for a university place is likely to be intense over the next year or so. It is essential that would-be students make the best choices in good time and on the best information available to them.
