WORKERS at Aintree’s United Biscuits site stepped up their bid to save jobs from being “off-shored” to India with a protest.
They held a lunchtime rally outside the company’s Binns Road office, in Wavertree, yesterday, wearing T-shirts with the slogan: “Stop Our Jobs Going Abroad.”
The company announced proposals to switch some work from the site to India, which could cost 55 jobs.
Representatives from Unite the Union say the company has failed to properly consult with them or with workers.
They expect the firm to announce its decision within days.
Unite national officer Jennie Formby said: “Our members are standing up to UB bosses in their fight to save jobs and secure their future. UB have made it abundantly clear that they have no intention of entering into meaningful consultation with us until after a decision has been made, and that will be too late.”
Merseyside MPsare supporting workers and have called for urgent meetings with UB bosses.
