Glow and behold as Flickr fans focus on Merseyside lighthouses

THE Lighthouses of the Mersey have drawn hundreds of photographers since the Daily Post set up its photosharing website.

Perch Rock Lighthouse, at New Brighton, Wirral, has been pictured in storm, sun and sunset in every season.

Hale Lighthouse has featured slightly less often.

This week, there has been a run of uploads that almost sum up the range we have been treated to over the last 18 months.

Among the most eye-catching is Vincent Phillips’s shot.

Mr Phillips, who goes by the name of Cassini2008 on our Flickr gallery, has managed to catch the Cheshire structure on a luminous April day.

He simply captions the work by saying: “A beautiful spring day down Hale shore.”

Stephen McNally’s spectral shot of Perch Rock Lighthouse at first glance looks like a double exposure as the building appears to hover on the sea line.

In fact, Mr McNally, Chasmon, has used an angular shadow created by the setting sun to create the surprising effect.

However, the shot that has won most acclaim from fellow Flickr users is datawise’s close up of the tower.

More than 50 people have nominated it among their favourites.
