In the wake of the scandals over MPs’ expenses, Ben Schofield asks what do our Westminster representatives do all day – and why?
ANDREW MILLER is the area’s most talkative MP.
His recent contributions were during a debate on changes to the insolvency process and in questioning the Work and Pensions Secretary.
Mr Miller said: “I tend to, wherever possible, listen to the principal speeches in any debate so that I’m as well-informed as I can be of the major arguments they entail. This involves sitting in the House for longer than some colleagues do.
“I believe that there’s huge advantage in a late staying for the opening speeches from the front benches of both sides, and deciding whether to participate on the basis of the arguments rather than a predetermined position.
“But I’ve never regarded these statistics as a measure of productivity.”
