Liverpool universities students and staff march against cuts

Marchers protest cut plans at Liverpool's universities

PROTESTS against cuts at Liverpool universities took to the streets over the weekend.

Around 200 students and staff marched through the city on Saturday.

They are fighting against Liverpool University’s plans to axe its politics, communications, philosophy and statistics departments and the loss of 34 courses at Liverpool John Moores. Liverpool University’s Council will make a final decision in June, while John Moores says the cuts are necessary to reduce oversubscribed rolls.

March organiser James Roberts, 23, said: “The general mood is anger, but I think we can see the beginning of a community-wide campaign.”
