PLANS for a new £8m multi-storey car park to ease congestion around Aintree Hospital have been given the go-ahead.
The 1,250-space car park will have five levels, including the roof. Preparation work is already under way and contractor Vinci Construction UK is expected to start work in the next few weeks, with completion scheduled for spring next year.
Paul Sheppard, planning advisor for Aintree University Hospitals NHS Trust, told yesterday’s meeting of Liverpool’s planning committee: “We are aware of the concerns in the area over parking issues.
“Aintree is one of the country’s largest hospital campuses, and the Trust is keen to take this initiative to meet the various health care needs that take place on the site.”
The scheme is part of a major investment by the Trust to develop services for patients.
Among new buildings which the car park will service is the new £30m Elective Care Centre.
The Trust’s director of estates and facilities, Paul Fitzpatrick, said there were currently no plans to increase car parking fees and the new car park would be part-funded from present car parking charges.
