A MOTHER-OF-TWO was killed by her jealous partner during a drink and drug-fuelled argument, a court has heard.
Brian Davies, 49, is alleged to have hit his girlfriend, Claire Hanley, with such force he caused massive bleeding to her brain.
Liverpool Crown Court heard he lashed out during a drunken row after he had become jealous of her dancing with a younger man during a night out.
Davies, of Fincham Road, Huyton, denies murder and manslaughter on November 4, last year.
He admitted to her mother, Kathleen Hanley, slapping her twice across the face, but claimed he had only done it to calm her down.
He insists he was acting in self-defence.
But William Waldron, QC, prosecuting, said: “This was a jealous and possessive man and he admitted jealousy was the root of what went on to Kathleen Hanley.
“Jealousy in his relationship with Claire had raised its head before.
“We don’t say Brian Davies intended to kill Claire Hanley that night, but we say he struck her hard to a vulnerable area of the body, her head, with sufficient force to cause fatal injury.”
The case continues.
