Chief executive John Burnside said: “Given the challenges we have faced, we believe our end-of-year performance represents significant success and places us in a strong position for the current year.”
He said figures for March and April this year met targets for Category A calls.
Ray Carrick, from the Ambulance Services Union (ASU), said: “The targets do not measure patient outcome or quality of care.
“According to the targets, it is better to get a patient to hospital in seven minutes 59 seconds and for them to die, than for paramedics to get them to hospital in eight minutes and one second and for them to save a life.
“The problems are because of a lack of funding and issues within the management structure.”
