A SOLDIER with the 1st Battalion, The Welsh Guards, died in the UK last night with his family by his bedside after being shot in Afghanistan, the MoD said.
The officer was flown back to Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham, after suffering gunshot wounds in Helmand Province on Saturday.
He received medical attention both on the ground and at a field hospital before returning to the UK for further treatment.
Task Force Helmand spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson said: “Today is a very sad day and we are deeply moved by the death of this brave officer.”
