Use of taxis sent ambulance service budget £375,000 over limits

NORTH West Ambulance Service’s Patient Transport Service (PTS) also missed targets, spending thousands of pounds on taxis.

The service takes non-emergency patients to and from hospital, and has several contracts with various hospitals and health bodies.

Targets say 95% of patients should be picked up within an hour of the patient being ready and 65% within 30 minutes.

But only just over 92% made the first target and less than 35% the later.

In August last year, the Daily Post revealed £300,000 was spent on taxis in one year in Cheshire and Merseyside because of a lack of drivers for its own vehicles.

End-of-year reports showed the service went £375,000 over budget last year because of taxi usage.
