Baby death sparks police investigation in St Helens

A MAJOR investigation has been launched after a baby died from serious head injuries.

The seven-month-old girl was taken to Alder Hey on Tuesday, May 5, after paramedics were called to an address in Dentons Green Lane, St Helens.

She had stopped breathing and was taken to Whiston Hospital before being transferred for treatment at Alder Hey.

She died in hospital two days later.

Police said a post mortem revealed the baby had suffered significant head trauma.

And officers are treating the death as suspicious.

Forensic teams spent two days at the terraced property last week.

A man in his early 20s was arrested in connection with the death and was held in custody before being released.

A woman, also in her 20s, was interviewed under caution but not arrested.
