Lord Mayor treated to preview of the Museum of Liverpool
LIVERPOOL’S Lord Mayor was treated to a sneak preview of the Museum of Liverpool yesterday – one of his last official engagements in office.
Cllr Steve Rotheram was given a guided tour of the £72m museum which is due to be completed by the end of this year.
Contractors Pihl Galliford Try are then set to hand over the site to National Museums Liverpool (NML). A £15m “fit-out” will then begin.
Cllr Rotheram said: “It was a great pleasure to visit the Museum of Liverpool as one of my last official engagements.
“I am hugely impressed that the original concept is borne out in the finished product.
“I know a lot of people who went to the original design and concept meeting were worried about how the museum would fit in on the Pier Head, next to the Three Graces, but it really works.
“Once it is finished, the Pier Head will just flow and the view is just absolutely stunning from the museum.
“I will definitely be one of the first in the queue when the doors open for the first time.
“Inside, it is an amazing space. It feels massive, they have really done a great job in making it feel light, bright and airy.
