UNION leaders will start talks today after United Biscuits confirmed plans to axe 53 Liverpool jobs.
The company confirmed its intention to transfer work for 110 staff, including 53 at its Wavertree offices, in Binns Road, to India.
Since the threat of moving jobs abroad, workers have campaigned vigorously, backed by their union, Unite, to save their jobs.
The union has been pressing for talks while the company has been considering its options.
And more than 4,000 people across Merseyside have signed a petition to stop United Biscuits (UB) moving Liverpool jobs to India.
Unite regional officer, Debbie Brannan, said: "The mood of the workers is one of anger. People are frustrated and upset. They feel as though they have been kept in the dark all along over plans to move Liverpool jobs to India.
“UB have had months to consider the jobs plan, yet they expect us to come back with alternative proposals to save these jobs in just 30 days. This is utterly unacceptable.
“But the fight is not over yet. Our priority is to keep people in work and jobs for the future.”
The union campaign includes an online petition calling on UB not to export Liverpool jobs to India.
