Fears of Liverpool terror raid student “trapped” in UK prison

ONE of the students arrested in the North West terror raids wants to leave the UK but is effectively trapped, his lawyer has said.

Tariq ur Rihman was among 12 people arrested but not charged over a suspected terrorist plot on April 8, when police raided locations across the north-west including Liverpool John Moores university, Cedar Grove in Toxteth, and Earle Road and Highgate Street, Edge Hill.

The men – 11 Pakistani nationals and one Briton – were released without charge, but the Pakistanis were handed over to the immigration authorities and detained on “national security” grounds.

Ten of the students are appealing against a deportation order.

Last Tuesday the Special Immigration Appeals Commission refused Rihman and three other men bail during a hearing in central London.

The commission heard Home Secretary Jacqui Smith was convinced the four would pose a real risk to national security if allowed to stay in Britain.
